Meeting Your Nervous System Where It’s At: Feldenkrais® & Trauma Approaches to Healing
A workshop for Healing Professionals with Atara Vogelstein, LCAT & Igor Shteynberg, Guild Certified Feldenkrais® practitioner
Monday, June 8th, 6:30-8:00pm, Balance Arts Center, NYC
In therapy work, we talk about meeting the client where they are, in mood, energy, emotional and psychological state, as relational entry points for client and clinician. In trauma work, so often, the client’s multifaceted parts fight against themselves: the pressure to perform or function or avoid judgement from family or peers can place trauma in a secretive shame cycle. An essential element to trauma work is giving room to the trauma to exist, for the client to bring their stories, histories, wounds, impulses, fears, self-judgments, etc. into the work. Through relational therapy approaches, establishing a foundation of relative trust and safety between client and clinician comes before other forms of change. Also essential to trauma work is meeting the client’s somatic state. Dysregulation and regulation live in the body. The Feldenkrais® Method prioritizes this meeting of internal space and somatic reality, seeking to empower individuals to access their own nervous system regulation and functional expansion through guided invitations. In this workshop, led by Trauma Specialist & Licensed Creative Arts Therapist Atara Vogelstein & Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner Igor Shteynberg, we will explore how the Feldenkrais® Method interacts with other somatic healing approaches to trauma through practitioner experiencing and group processing with poetry, imagery & reflective discourse.
